A Journey into Medieval Kilkenny

Discover one of Ireland’s most remarkable historical treasures on a guided tour of The Red Book of Ossory, now on public display at St Canice’s Cathedral—almost 700 years after it was first written.

This immersive exhibition brings medieval Kilkenny to life, offering a rare glimpse into the daily lives, beliefs, and stories of its people. Having survived centuries of upheaval—from wars to plagues—the manuscript stands as a powerful link to the past. Within its pages, you’ll find the earliest recorded recipe for Aqua Vitae (the precursor to Irish whiskey), alongside poems, songs, early references to the Magna Carta, and even a letter from King Edward III reflecting on life in medieval Ireland.

  • Includes guided tour and access to The Red Book of Ossory exhibition
  • Perfect for history lovers, culture seekers, and curious visitors
